Who's it for?
This course is designed for therapists wishing to increase their knowledge of knee anatomy, assessment, diagnosis and treatment. This will be an excellent stepping stone for anyone wishing to progress to specialising in the knee.
What will it cover?
The course will cover intermediate to advanced clinical anatomy including biomechanics.
There will be a large emphasis on assessment not only on appropriate special tests and handling skills but also the importance on subjective questioning which ultimately leads to appropriate special test selection and an accurate diagnosis.
Brief explanation on radiological examination, when and when not to order and what to order will be covered.
Four main pathologies will be covered with a majority of the focus on ligament injuries:
1. ligament injuries, especially ACL
2. OA knee
3. meniscal injuries
4. Anterior Knee Pain
Treatment will be covered with a heavy emphasis on exercise therapy but manual therapy will be included to give a greater understanding how combining the 2 will lead to and effective treatment plan.
Finally other treatment options will be covered in brief to give an understanding when surgical, injection or just self management is indicated
How will it be delivered?
The course will be delivered over one day and will be a mixture of theory and practical, with a heavy emphasis on practical and student involvement. So be prepared to work both mentally and practically. Be sure to wear shorts and loose clothing.
