Shoulder assessment & Rehabilitation
This course is taught by two specialist Physiotherapists who work with complex shoulders.
Rhian heads the shoulder physiotherapy team for North Bristol NHS and works as an ESP for a specialist shoulder surgeon. She has a masters in manipulation and is a member of BESS.
Tony works as an ESP for N-Somerset PCT for the MSK Interface service. He works with a special interest in shoulders in the NHS assessing complex shoulder pathology as well as treating in the private sector.
This course reflects their personal experience in assessing and treating both basic and complex pathology, backed up by useful reseach which has informed their practice.
This is a 1 day course split into assessment and treatment runs from 9:00 am till 6pm.
The assessment section will build on the therapists experience to date and teach basic and complex skills which inform the diagnosis and treatment. This will include case studies, practical skills and a solid understanding of differential diagnosis.
The treatment section forms the main part of the day and looks at a hands on approach with manual therapy, taping and rehabilitation exercise which the 2 lecturers have built over their years of practice and training.
Within the reference list will be a useful list of top 10 papers which have informed and changed the practice of these 2 clinicians and they hope will do the same for you.
This is a hand on course and attendees will be expected to dress appropriately for examination and treatment.

To establish a good understanding of the normal anatomy and surface marking of the GHJ and shoulder girdle
To understand the most common shoulder pathologies within MSK outpatients, and integrate into clinical assessment and treatment
To understand the principles of the subjective examination of the GHJ and shoulder girdle
To understand the principles of the objective examination of the GHJ and shoulder girdle
Appropriate clinical hypothesis formation
To understand the principles of management of common shoulder pathologies & movement dysfunction
