Spinal Manipulation 2 day course June 9th-10th 2012 cost £195
Venue: Southmead Hospital, Bristol
Time: 9am till 4:30/ both days
The Manual Concepts and Practical Application of Grade V Spinal Manipulation TechniquesThe spinal manipulation grade V techniques course has been designed to provide comprehensive and progressive tuition over two days, allowing time to practice and consolidate the manipulative skills learnt.
The two days are intended to develop pre-existing manual therapy skills to a level and competency where manipulation can be introduced and applied safely to the spine. Cervical spine pre-manipulative testing and manipulation techniques are taught on the course. Unique spinal rehabilitation techniques that maintain the effects of manipulation post application are also covered.
The group size is kept to a maximum of 12 for excellent tutor/student ratio.Topics included in the 2 days
Tutor’s approachIt takes time to develop the necessary skills to effectively apply manipulative techniques. The tutor has a relaxed, patient, hands-on approach to teaching. He concentrates on firstly developing the participant’s ability to correctly position the spinal segment for manipulation. Then concentrates on developing the participant’s ability to feel for the appropriate amount of resistance at the spinal segment before finally developing the skill to appropriately apply the high velocity thrust.
Who is this course aimed at?This course is aimed at any Physiotherapist who is looking to enhance their existing manual therapy skills. All participants must be HPC registered and members of the CSP. All participants will be required to fill in a spinal manipulation screening form at the beginning of the course. The screening form is an in-depth subject and physical assessment to rule out any participant who could be at risk of injury from spinal manipulation.

- Upper cervical spine neural integrity testing;
- Upper cervical spine instability testing;
- Presentations on: research, effects, precautions, contraindications of manipulation, tips to achieve a successful technique and common faults;
- Rehabilitation techniques;
- Case studies: used to apply clinical reasoning to spinal manipulation.
